Off to Cusco
On January 13, I started my journey to Cusco, Peru. I took a 6:20p flight to Miami, then a midnight flight from Miami to Lima, Peru, arriving at 5:40a (Peru is in the same timezone as the US Eastern Time). Finally, I had an 8:45a flight from Lima to Cusco, Peru, where I arrived at 10:30a, January 14.
All ready to go.
In Cusco, I am staying at Ecopackers, which is a nice hostel, and very close to the main square.
Cusco's main square, Plaza de Armas. There are two large cathedrals on the square.
The main Cathedral, built on the site of a former Inca palace.
The rectangles at the bottom of the doors are human-sized doors.
El Triunfo, the other church on the square.
I visited a bunch of of tour agencies, and finally booked the Salkantay Trek (I booked with a different company, but this is the general itinerary). This is a 5 day hiking trek to Machu Picchu, passing through a variety of different scenery. I leave on the trek on Saturday, January 17.
On January 15, I went on a walking tour of the city, and climbed up one of the hills to get a good view of the city.
