Day 35: On the Beach
This morning Greg was to wake me early if the weather was good, so that we could go down to the beach for sunrise. Waking at 8:30, I figured the weather must not be great. Indeed, the are was covered in clouds, which makes for a poor sunrise. Instead, we decided to go down to the beach in the afternoon for the sunset.
Later in the morning, we left for the afternoon. Before heading to the beach, we went to bowl a couple of games. Apparently, I’m no good at this Australian Bowling, where the ball spins backwards, because I didn’t score a game over 100. Madi, on the other hand, scored 3-4 strikes in one game, destroying my score. Greg initially went for a perfect game, but about halfway through, he decided to screw it up. Nonetheless, it was a fun way to spend the morning.
Afterwards, we picked up some pizza, and headed down to the beach. The beach faces west out over the Indian Ocean, and the weather was perfect. We set up chairs on the grass right next to the beach and ate our pizza. On the beach, the sand was refreshingly cool, and the water definitely cool. Unlike the surfers on the tiny waves, we avoided getting in the waves, but we did build half of a sand turtle and take a couple of hikes down the beach. We spent the afternoon simply enjoying the beautiful winter weather, resting in the sun and generally having a relaxing time.
As the sun started to fall, the air cooled quickly and we had to grab our jackets. Our wait was worth it though, soon the sky turned orange, and we had a great sunset. Most of the clouds had cleared, so it wasn’t the most amazing sunset I have seen, but it was good. We took some pictures in the sunset, and headed back home. The beach was great for the afternoon, and there were not too many people there.
I’ve been waiting for these pictures! I love any sunset! The family picture is beautiful! What alovely crew! I’m not sure I understand the backward flowing balls??!! I am trying to visualize the whole thing! It looks like Madi has it made! Where to next in Australia? I have always wanted to visit there. Take lots of pictures ! I guess you have seen the news about how the US is burning up! It’s true. The whole US is inthe red !! We had a short break in 80′s then back up this week. A few scary storms too. Keep having a grand time, I love all the notes with the picas, look forward everyday Love LL
The backwards spin was a joke… I’m just terrible at bowl, apparently. On Thursday, we fly to Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) in the middle of the outback, then continue to Sydney.
I think I could stay on the beach watching the sunset over and over again. Beautiful pictures as always. Thanks for sharing.
A nice afternoon at the beach that’s topped-off with a beautiful sunset! We love your sunset pictures.
Love the sunset. Have you seen any koala bears? You may not be in the right area for those. They were talking about them on TV this morning, and I thought about you. Have a fun week.
Greg would like you to know that Aussies get mad if you say “Koala bear,” as they are not at all related to bears.
beautiful pictures!! I doubt that Myrtle Beach will be that empty this week….. but I do hope the water is warmer than there!!
Glad you are having a GRAND TIME!!!
That’s right. I forgot – heard the discussion they are not bears. Old habits are hard to break. OK – Have you seen any koalas? Mary
No, but I may in Sydney.
