Day 32: A Walk in the Park
Kings Park, that is. I awoke this morning at about 8, or so I thought. It turns out that the blinds in the room I was in are so dark that I slept until 11. Anyway, after eating breakfast, I put on some long pants and biked over to Kings Park. The park is just down the road and across the bridge, so I was able to ride there in less than ten minutes, riding much more successfully than yesterday. I chained the bike up in a parking lot at the base of the park and climbed the stairs up to the park.
The park is huge, bigger than Central Park, and the biggest city park in the world. I made a big loop around the park, in an attempt to see everything. Of course, in the first hour and a half of walking I never saw a map, so I pretty much wandered around, guessing the correct way to go. The first part of the walk was along the side of the hill, which looked out over the river and city. This was also near the botanic gardens, which I didn’t explore, but I saw several neat flowers in. The next section of the park was “bushland”, or a combination of the forest and desert. There, I was able for walk for ages without seeing anyone. The weather was perfect, and I soon switched into my shorts. As I walked along I came to an area with huge green parklands, and a huge playground. The entire area was packed with kids and their families, enjoying the weather and their winter holiday from school. I grabbed a burger for lunch from a cafe nearby and continued making my way around.
As I neared the end of my loop, there were several war memorials overlooking the river. Before I headed out of the park, I popped in the botanic gardens for a moment and saw a couple of the displays. I walked back down the hills and got back on my bike. I rode home without issue in the beautiful weather.
In the evening, I went down to the gym with Greg and worked out a bit. Later, I started watching Harry Potter with Madi, so we can see all of the movies before we see the new one next week. She is also interested in reading the books, so I told her that they are great, even better than the movies, in my opinion.
Beautiful view. Does the last Harry Potter not come out until next week there or are you guys just waiting until then to see it? I’m going to see it at 12:01 tonight here!
It actually came out on Wednesday, but we are going next week.
Did your trail take you over the large glass bridge in Kings Park? We thought that it was very neat, and it gave a great view of the city.
Yup, I went over the glass bridge, though I didn’t realize that it was, as I had assumed the “glass bridge” would have a glass bottom.
It seems you are quite the tourist now! I am impressed as usual. It looks like beautiful weather there, but is it cool or cold? I love all the pictures! I had a dream the other night. I heard the doorbell, openned it and there you were! You said your mom had called and I needed help with my computer so you came by for the day to help me!!! Jeez! Really? Have a great day, miss you Love LL
The weather is great! It gets down to about 45 at night, but by morning it is in the fifties, and most of the day it is in the sixties.
I think you’ve forgotten about our bike rides last summer in Sarasota. It’s actually only been a year since you rode:) Did Madi not want to go with you, or did you sleep so late she gave up on you and found something better to do?
No, she did not want to walk the 10+ km all the way around the park.
Looks amazing! I have to agree that the Harry Potter books are better than the movies, but I usually like the books more. I have liked this series of movies and will be sad that they are done.
